Canadian Premier League - Day Two

I don't know what to think about the first game of the Canadian Premier League from a quality perspective as I generally watch the English Premier League where the quality is much better. In fact, I have been trying to branch out with the soccer that I watch. Countries like Sweden, Finland or Montenegro would be interesting stepping stones in the near future.

For instance, Sweden has a league that is in the middle of the pack in UEFA but non of their National team players play in the Sweden league.

The team that I'm going for in the CPL is HFX Wanderers FC. I have always wanted to go to Halifax and I'm trying to plan a trip their as soon as I can. If anyone has a couch for me to sleep on please let me know. I'll pay $25 per night I stay.

I just paid for my monthly fee on OneSoccer. It is only like 9.99 a month and I'm happy to support the new league.

The interesting that that I noticed yesterday during the game on CBC was that Scott Russell was in the studio before and after the game. This is huge for the telecast as Scott Russell is the main anchor for the Olympics and I know that Canadians fall in love with the Olympics every two years.

HFX Wanderers FC play Pacific FC right now so I'll have more on this later but I'm thrilled to be following HFX Wanderers FC on this blog.

CPL Starts Tomorrow on CBC

I'm almost getting goosebumps thinking about the inaugural match in the Canadian Premier League. I'm only 25 so I was no where near alive when leagues like the NHL, NBA or even the NFL were in their infancy.

Can we just call tomorrow Soccer Day in Canada?
The new league will give Canada soccer a spring board to succeed in the future. Seven teams, from coast to coast will be apart of the inaugural season. To be honest, I don't care that the worst team in the MLS could beat the best team in the CPL 6-0 or something. This is big!

For the record, I'm a anti CFL fan. Soccer is different. There are easily over 100 leagues in the world and all of them should have significance. I would love to go to a Lithuanian club soccer game because the winner of that league goes to the  UEFA Champions League where the best teams in Europe play.

This might be a bit optimistic but if there was ever a merger between Concacaf and South America that maybe one day the CPL champion gets to go to the Copa Libertadores.

As for the present, I'm stoked to see the CPL grow. The seven team league should do wonders for soccer not only for the National team but also for the grass roots of the game despite seven being an odd number.

Next year, I hope there are eight next year and 10 the year after that. Relegation should be possible by 2026 and given that Canada is a Commonwealth country I could see the CPL implementing relegation one day.

What I love about the list of cities that have already been awarded a team is that these cities aren't the seven biggest cities in Canada and therefore, this gives a lot of other cities hope that they can be rewarded with an expansion team in the future.

Biggest news of the last month was that CBC will be broadcasting a handful of games for the season which is huge news. I have been waiting for this day for a long time and I can't believe it is finally here.

In 60 years, I want these seven teams to be an answer to a trivia question  just like the original six are to the NHL.

April 26th - Top Pick

Things didn't go the way I planned yesterday. Real Madrid tied yesterday 0-0. I lost $20 oh well. I have a lock for today.

Liverpool at home vs Huddersfield Town which is a game that features the best team against the worst at Anfield.

People will always say that the odds are not as good because if you lose, you lose a lot but even after yesterday, I'm still $401 up and I probably only have a 4% chance of Liverpool not winning the game.

Liverpool needs the win. Huddersfield is already down and would be a huge surprise if they were able to hold Liverpool out for 45 minutes let alone a whole game. I'm really curious if I'm able to win money over the long term.

Thanks for always reading. Right now I feel very good about myself. Liverpool is -1600 so I would have to put down $1600.

I keep track of all my results so let me know if you want to see that breakdown. I'm 3-3 but have won all my major bets.

April 25th Top Pick

I feel bad about not getting a daily pick in for over a week. I had to fly down to Vancouver last week and then Easter happened.

My last pick was Calgary beating Colorado in Game 3 of the NHL playoffs. Unfortunately, Calgary lost 6-2. $40 down the drain just like that. This brings my record down to 3-2. $421 gained however.

Tomorrow my play is Real Madrid At Getafe. This is a bit of a gamble as Real Madrid isn't the same team as they were in past years. This is why, I'm only placing $20 on this bet. Real Madrid won 2-0 in Madrid earlier on in the year but Real Madrid has been very average by their standards on the road.

April 15th pick - Record 3-1

Hey guys, sorry for the delay in this, I worked a lot lately. It was a great National Championship game that Virginia escaped with a trilling win in Overtime.

A good thing to remember is that in a Title game whether it's a Stanley Cup Final or CFP Title game is that generally the time with the most history ends up winning. This is why I was very confident with picking Virginia to beat Texas Tech.

Winnings if I cashed out: 177. Winnings if I never had cashed out: 521. Either way, I would have been on the green side which is the good side.

Generally speaking, sports betting is a good way of losing money but I am going to try my best to keep myself from not losing money.

Today's pick is Calgary to win over Colorado. The ML is -125. Considering how heartbreaking of a loss Calgary had in Game 2, I believe that this will be a wake up cal for the Stanley Cup favourites.

Put a $40 down. Nothing too drastic as I never trust the the bounce of a puck.

My 2019 Draft Lottery Results

I was going to simulate  Tankathon about 1000 times and keep track of the results and post them on here. Unfortunately, until yesterday I wasn't aware that the Draft Lottery was tomorrow. I will be wearing my special Canucks gold shirt and will be crossing my fingers that tomorrow the balls will fall our way.

I'm not too hopeful, to be brutally honest, I will actually be really nervous if we get #1. Jack Hughes will be a great player but I would hate to go the next 13 years with brothers again and come up empty again.

It would be a great problem to have however. The Canucks most important moves of the summer will come with free agency and the odd trade or two to get this team competing for the playoffs next year.

I really like where this team is going and I really hope this team is not in the draft lottery next year.

Here is how my results turned out with one click of the simulation button.
