Are the Seattle Sonics Back?

It's not related to Canada, but most Canadian sports fans know what NBA fans in Sacramento and Seattle are feeling. Vancouver went through a similar process with the Grizzlies in 2000-2001,  Quebec City  and Montreal went through it with the Nordiques (NHL) and Expos (MLB) respectfully. On the other end of the spectrum, Winnipeg knows how both cities are feeling as they lost the Winnipeg Jets in the mid 90's only to get a team back a year and a half ago. Coast to coast, Canadians know what fans in both cities are going through. I remember when I was seven, seeing the Grizzlies leave was heartbreaking.

Point is, with the news that broke early yesterday that a Seattle based group have reached a deal to buy the Sacramento Kings and move them to Seattle, there is going to be one upset fan base whenever there is relocation. Unfortunately, that's the way it will always be. Sports are not just a fun thing to watch on TV and something to get excited about when our teams win, it is also a business.  Therefore, at the end of the day it will be hard to please everyone. Which is something Sonics fans know far too much about after losing the original Sonics in heartbreaking fashion in 2008 to Oklahoma City.

It's not official, and won't be official until the city of Sacramento does whatever they can to save the Kings. There is still some obstacles to overcome. Chris Hansen will have to get relocation papers in by March 1st. Furthermore, Hansen is reportedly have to give the Maloofs 30 million dollars which is not refutable. If something is to go wrong the 30 million could be huge. The full deal will be worth 525 million dollars.

Personally, it will be great to get basketball back in Seattle. As it is, the original Sonics never should have left in the first place. Seattle is a basketball town and always will be. So many Sonic memories took place from 1967 to 2008 it just seems right that basketball will be returning to Seattle.

Almost two years ago, I did a similar story about a rumor of the Sonics coming back. Now that the dream has become a reality it is amazing for the fans to get their redemption. For the next few weeks it might be sleepless in Seattle with visions of the Sonics coming to Seattle, just remember, there is a fan base in Sacramento that will be sleepless for the opposite reasons.
