Canada Basketball Should Be Ashamed of Themselves

To say that I'm extremely disappointed in the Canadian basketball players that decided to decline an invitation to play in the World Cup would be a understatement. This means that Canada has it's work cut out for them next week when they will try and qualify for the 2020 Olympics.

I hated the new format that FIBA created when it was revamped three years ago. I was actually fearful that Canada wouldn't qualify for the World Cup. My concerns dug deeper when the groups were made up earlier this year.

How Canada got in the pot they did for the draw almost makes me feel that this is rigged. They were 25th in the FIBA rankings in 2015 when they went 8-2 at the FIBA Americans, than they go 10-2 in
World Cup Qualifying and they go up two spots?? I completely don't understand.

Canada's hopes of qualifying for 2020 Olympics is next to nil right now and I am not optimistic of them qualifying for 2024 either.

Canada produces the second most NBA players in the world. Even at the European level we are building top players. The number of players Canada has playing in the NCAA is amazing and it doesn't look like things are slowing down.

That being said we need commitment but not just from NBA players from European players as well.  A few of European players are no shows which means Canada has a few college kids on their roster which is good for our development but not when an Olympic berth is on the line. There will be no Golden Generation for Canadian basketball and if Rowan Barrett and company can't turn this thing around, Canada may not even qualify for the 2028 Olympics in Los Angels which would be the National disaster.

Fans won't hold anyone accountable cause no one cares if the Olympic drought ends. Yes, FIBA ruined this by revamping the whole thing but Canada Basketball needs to take responsibility for failure every year.

This team is long shots to get out of the Group of Death. Why is it that when we don't qualify for the FIFA World Cup we demand change and yet when our basketball team fails no one seems to care. I'm about to lose it if the commitment for 2023 is the same.
