Mets Offseason Outlook - Still Some Work to be Done

A week has past since the Kansas City Royals were crowned as World Series Champions. The pain is wound is still deep and painful, but if your like me, you have already been stressing about another favorite team of yours the past few days.

Lets get right to it, the Mets have 17 players that are free agents. Some are not difference makers but some made a huge impact with the Mets run to the World Series. The good news, the top free agents are all in their 30's which means not resigning them might eliminate the chance of holding on to a bad contract in a few years.

It will be really interesting to see who the Mets resign and who the Mets let go. For  instance, Bobby Parnell was injured for a good chunk of the year, might be a risk to brink back but also has high reward.

I do think the Mets GM Sandy Alderson will find enough power to fill the middle of the lineup whether it be from a trade, free agent pick up or calling up someone from AAA is something that will all play itself out. The first domino that will have to fall is what happens with Yoenis Cespedes and Daniel Murphy

I also believe the Mets will break camp after Spring Training with a stronger bullpen than the one that was taken advantage of by the Kansas City Royals. A healthy Mets bullpen might not have made a difference but I think the Mets easily would have pushed the World Series to a Game 6 and possibly a Game 7.

The Mets year can go in two directions next year. The first direction is the team is competitive again and it will become known that the Mets pitchers are going to keep the Mets a possible World Series contender for the next few years. The other direction is that the offense struggles or the pitching staff has arm injuries that derail this team from back to back NL East Titles for the first time in their history.

I could see it going both ways. Baseball is a great thing where going last to first in a division is way likelier than in other sports. The Texas Rangers completed that accomplishment this year in the AL West.

Also, keep it mind that the Anaheim Angels finished with the best record last year with a 98-64 record and this year didn't even make the playoffs. It goes to show how much work Sandy Alderson still has to do this off season.

Here is the 17 player list that are free agents.
