Oilers 3 Canucks 2 - October 2nd

If you had yourself pulling your hair out at about 9:30pm last night, I don't blame you. For 50 minutes last night the Canucks looked like a better team. Got their first lead of the year with just over ten minutes to go in the game. Then for lack of better term, the roof caved in and the best player in the NHL found a way to win them the game with under five minutes to go.

If you overreacted last night I don't blame you. It's too easy to early on in the year. I went from thinking this could be a super good team to thinking that we were doomed for a Top 10 draft pick within ten minutes last night.

The reality is, that if we are somewhere in the middle, then every point is magnified so much that every point matters.

For instance, starting 3-5 always seems like a huge mountain to climb. For one, if you start 3-5 it is important that the tough start doesn't turn into 4-8 or 5-10. That will compound the problem even more. But for the most part, starting 3-5 is tough because it is more noticeable. If you go 3-5 in February or any other month it is not as frustrating because we are more focused on positing in standings and not what their record is in the last eight games.

For the most part, I'm happy with the way this team looks. The bitter part is we only play twice in the next week and one of them is against Calgary which could easily be a loss if we play well. I don't want to start off 0-2 but it's quite possible.

My other concern is with a slow start, when will Demko get a start. They only play one back to back in October. He needs at least two starts this month even if Markstrom is playing well. I'm curious to see where Green puts him in.

This team will win their fair share of games but it is what happens to this team in one goal games is going to be what decides this teams playoff chances come April.
